Back To The Yadda Yadda Yadda

Fallen idol in heavy demand
There’s a quiet little derby brewing on fallen American Idol hopeful Joanna Pacitti. We hear there are several majors pushing paperwork to barrister Steve Sessa in hopes to sign the songstress, who was recently disqualified from the Top 36 Idol finalist list for undisclosed reasons. Stay tuned… Another derby is brewing on the management front with Florida-based act Fake Problems, who are signed to SideOneDummy Records (home to Flogging Molly, The Gaslight Anthem, among others)… The house was packed at the Troubadour on Friday night for the band’s set.
On the heels of the Amanda Ghost hiring at Epic Records, we hear the new prexy is looking to bring in a UK executive to assume the Head of A&R position at the label. The Brits are taking over… Here’s a little catch up on the musical chairs front: Warner Bros. Records A&R player Craig Aaronson assumed the Presidency of Sire Records after the departure of industry vet Michael Goldstone, who now runs the Mom and Pop Music label through Q-Prime. On the Atlantic side, we hear Mike Caren and Fueled By Ramen ruler John Jannick are now running a revived Elektra Records. Word on the street was that EMI Music was making a play to bring Caren on board, prior to his Elektra appointment. That’s all for now…

Harlacher Joins CAA
Looks like there was some hoochie coochie going on behind the Green Door (we love porn-related puns). Turns out that singer/songwriter Jared Lee had attracted industry reps from Warner Bros., Atlantic Records and Interscope to check him out earlier this week at the Green Door. Super producer Brian Howes was in the crowd as well. Lee is unsigned, but Chrysalis Music snapped him up early for publishing…
Also in the mix is Total Assault managed The Record Life, who’s reportedly been showcasing for the likes of RCA, Interscope and Warner Bros. – the band is playing a sold-out show at The Troubadour tonight…
Finally RM64 would also like to extend a warm west coast welcome to Ryan Harlacher (Avenged Sevenfold, Against Me, Black Tide), who recently relocated to Los Angeles. Suiting up at the Death Star, also known as Creative Artist Agency, Harlacher joins CAA from his former post at The Pinnacle Agency – we know the Force will be with him.
01.22.09RM64 Q&A WITH ANDREW BRIGHTMAN

Andrew Brightman
Interview by: Scott Sheldon & Rodel Delfin
A lot has happened in the music industry since Andrew Brightman started his career in the biz twenty years ago. Successfully navigating through the landscape changes is key to survival and prosperity in the ever-changing talent business. For Brightman, that career route started as a vinyl buyer for Tower Records, while DJing at downtown clubs in New York City. Looking for new opportunities outside of the Big Apple, Brightman relocated to Los Angeles in the early 90s.
With Tinseltown as his new home, Brightman immersed himself in various music projects doing independent marketing, music supervision and artist management. He would later land A&R and Creative executive positions at A&M Records and PolyGram Music Publishing, respectively. After PolyGram was sold to Universal, Brightman further honed his creative skills by developing and managing new artists as well as consulting for major labels.
In 2004, he started Brightman Music, a producer management company. Many of Brightman’s clients (past and present) have been involved with this decade’s biggest selling acts including The Killers, Nickelback, OneRepublic, Daughtry, Hinder, Katy Perry, Metro Station, Iglu & Hartly, and Shooter Jennings, among many others.
He recently stopped by the RM 64 offices with coffee and donuts to give us the latest on his clients/projects and to get his take on the current music landscape.
